Professor Nick Shay Deutsch

Born in Israel, Nick grew up in Sydney, Australia, where he commenced his music studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts with Distinction. Nick was awarded the "Gwen Nisbet" prize for most outstanding student.

An "MSOS" scholarship enabled him to continue his studies in Germany with Diethelm Jonas at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Trossingen.

As an oboe soloist he has worked with many leading orchestras, including the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Munich Philharmonic, Deutsche Symphonie Orchestra Berlin, Radio Orchestras of Cologne, Stuttgart, Frankfurt and Opera Houses of Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Mannheim, Cologne and Bayreuth. He also works regularly with various ensembles such as the Ensemble Modern, Capella Andrea Barca (Andras Schiff Ensemble), Linos Ensemble, Chamber Orchestras of Munich and Stuttgart, Camerata Salzburg, Klangverwaltung München and the Stuttgart Bach Collegium.

Nick is a member of the Budapest Festival Orchestra and performs regularly with the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra.

He performs regularly as a soloist and chamber musician, and is a member of the Hindemith Quintet. Nick has performed in many major music festivals in over 40 countries on all five continents.

He currently holds the position of Professor of Oboe at the Hochschule für Musik - "Felix Mendelsohnn Bartholdy" in Leipzig.

Nick plays a Marigaux 901 oboe.
